In 1816, King Frederik William 3 of Prussia made his cabinet pass a decree that stated all Lutheran churches in the areas under Prussian rule had to observe the last Sunday beforeAdvent as a "general celebration in memorial of the deceased".Other churches outside of Prussia followed, eventually, as well.

In the United States, some Protestant churches celebrate this service of remembrance as "Totenfest."It often coincides with celebration of All saints day.

Well we still have it

Learning Deutch from Deutchland! XD

I've been trying to teach myself German and Japanese. Both of which are very hard to learn. :/
Just one question Doitsu Sensei, but what are the male/female words? O.o

I do love this though, great idea! Just one thing, I can't makeout Wednesday. X)

Nice :D I do it too but not with japanese- wow japanese O:

Well... English has the article "the" so every word has no gender -> everything is neuter.

We have Der, Die, Das - > male, female, neuter. It has a heavy influence on the words and grammar- and the cases! It is not very easy.

male : der Hund (dog)
female: die Hündin(female dog), die Blume (flower)
neuter: das Boot (boat)

Thanks :D

Wednesday? der Mittwoch :)

Danke for the help! ^L^

Yeah, I took Japanese in Kindergarten, one of the hardest languages in the world to learn. I can't speak it very fluently write in kanji anymore, but if you'd like, I can tell you some of the things that I've learned about the Japanese language. :)

ありがとう!:3

Yeah, it was a language academy.  ;)

They had 4 languages there that you could choose from. English ( if you were foreign ), Spanish, French, and Japanese.  I took Japanese!  XD
Last I remember,  the school went up to 8th grade, and by then ( if you're passing the classes ) you could speak the language fluently. So then they'd take the whole class to Spain, France, or Japan, depending on the language class that you took. :)

I've been teaching myself German for a couple of years.  Recently the battery went flat on my heart rate monitor and now it suddenly 'speaks' German.  I love that because it helps me learn :squee:  Your tutorials are wonderful, thank you!
